Sixth Graders Show Style
by B. Payne on Apr.14, 2010, under 6th Grade Art, Student Art
Sixth Grade Art Students have recently been exploring various styles in art and producing some of their own. Sometimes it is more fun and cool to express a scene or object in an unrealistic style. What do you think of these styles and what does it remind you of??
Some of these were created with a wax technique that is like Bateek. Others were created with pastels and watercolor mixed and the others were drawn with different colors of Sharpie markers. Which do you think look the best and why? Try some stylistic drawings on your own and send them to us. Send art to paynba@grisd.net. We’ll post it if we can.

Here is a link to the museum’s webste if you need to look at it -http://www.cartermuseum.org/works-of-art. We’ll post more pictures later. by B. Payne on Jan.20, 2010, under 6th Grade Art, Student Art
Check out the Clay Masks that 6th Graders just finished!! They learned a lot about creating form with the additive and subtractive methods of sculpture. It was messy but fun. The masks sometimes resemble the artist. What do you think?

by B. Payne on Nov.03, 2009, under 6th Grade Art, Student Art
Sixth Graders just finished their Designer Rocks!! They made them earlier out of clay, formed and carved them into their own creations, then stamped designs on them. We fired them after they were dry and painted them with metalic and iridescent paint. Here are some shots of them while making them and the final Rocks. They looked so good we all had a Designer Rock Hoe Down during 8th period last week!! (Photos below) Let us know what you think.
AHHHH- Haunted Halloween Faces From 6th Graders!!!!
by B. Payne on Oct.20, 2009, under 6th Grade Art, Student Art
These 6th graders distorted their own faces (and a few others) with tools in Paint Shop Pro to create some pretty scary portraits. They had fun doing it and actually became more aware of facial features while doing it. Post some comments and tell us what you think.

Designer Rocks, Abstract Designs and Landscape Paintings – 6th Grade
by B. Payne on Oct.08, 2009, under 6th Grade Art, Student Art
The 6th Grade Art Students just finished several projects dealing with design. They created Abstract Designs and then worked with clay to continue learning about design in 3/D mediums. The Designer Rocks are always fun. We learned several principles that we can use to make our art more pleasing. Rewards will be given to the first students to post on this blog what those principles are.
We also went to the computer lab and created some landscape paintings with Paint Shop Pro. That was fun. We are going next week to create some Halloween Portraits by distorting our own photo. That will be scary. Here are a few shots of some of the students and their work. Click on the photo to leave a comment.
