2010- 2011 Sixth Graders Go Completely Abstract – What do you think?

These are some abstract drawings that the sixth grade art students recently created in Art Class. They traced around cut out paper shapes to create the design, then colored it with markers. They tried to use the Principles of Design in their arrangement and coloring. What do you think? Which one do you think really looks great? What is it that makes it look so good? Hope everyone had a great summer. I’m looking forward to a great year of art classes in the 2010/2011 school year and hope you are too. What project or kind of art are you most interersted in learning about?? We do all kinds of art in class but it might help to know what your interests and favorites are.

Did you see any cool or interesting art during the summer?? I found the Benini Sculpture Ranch, outside of Johnson City, during a trip through the Hill Country this summer. It was really a neat place and had huge sculptures of all kinds scattered over the ranch. Stop by and visit if you are ever down that way. I plan to go back when I get time. I have posted some photos and a link to their website below.

Lacie’s Fantasy Art

Hey this is Lacie. Mr. Payne is letting his art students take over the blog. Have you ever heard about Fantasy Art? Fantasy Art is similar to Surreal art. My favorite Fantasy artist is Lacy Nicole Knudson. She has some cool art that I’ve posted with this. The meaning of Fantasy to me is like dreaming, using your imagination, and just keeping your mind wide open for all possibilities that may come to mind. I would really like to know what you think (fantasy) means to you and what you think about the pictures.

This art obviously has a lot of different, bright colors. That makes it very attractive. It’s consistency of different colors make it overwhelming and eye catching. It seems to show different characters who look small and fuzzy, submitting words like “yes!”, and so on.
